Water Levels
At the spring meeting, some concern was raised about water levels in the pond--while they had risen with the rain, some owners felt that they fell quicker than usual this spring.
In response, I inspected the outlet culvert on the afternoon of 28 May 2005.
The culvert appeared to be in good condition. The normal weir boards across the face of the culvert covered half the pipe, appeared to be securely in place and undisturbed. At the time of the inspection, water was cresting the weir boards by a depth somewhat greater than 1 inch.
In the past few years, there has been netting in front of the culvert to ensure hydrilla did not flow out of the pond. That netting is no longer present, and may account for a more rapid decline in water level than in the recent past.
